Speaking at the opening of the Grand Strategy Summit in Washington on Thursday, the former Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, as the last surviving member of Nixon's Cabinet, revealed that in the strategic view of that time, the US government saw America as a mediating partner between China and Russia.

"As our policy developed he (Nixon) issued instructions which basically said that we should place the American interests in such a way that we were closer to Russia and China than they were to each other”, the German-American icon of international politics, who is about to complete 100 years in 2023, declared via video conference.

In his last book, "Leadership: Six Studies in World Strategy", the also former National Security Advisor described Richard Nixon as 'the American President, most similar to Theodore Roosevelt'.

"Nixon was a strategist who tried to establish the relationship between American challenges and to find solutions in which progress could be made on key issues simultaneously, dangers reduced and opportunities enhanced", Kissinger spoke at the Summit.

Promoted by the Nixon Foundation, the event intended to address America’s challenges within its leadership in the 21st Century.
