The artistic project 'Les Machines de l’ile' displayed one of its latest animatronics, a huge heron acting as a carousel, in Nantes on Saturday.

Footage shows residents gathered to watch the heron animatronic taking a spin while some of its creators took part in the test.

Co-author of the 'Machines' projects Pierre Orefice said the carousel is only part of a far bigger project called the 'Heron tree'.

"The heron tree is a 35 meters high, 55 meters wide tree in which there we can find hanging gardens, 1,4 km of branches, 800 meters of hanging gardens where people can walk. The journey is filled with a mechanical bestiary that people can activate with the help of mediators," he explained.

With Nantes Metropole announcing the abandonment of the 'Heron tree', the creators hope to be able to complete the project with the help of private funds.
