Beijing would stick to its zero-COVID policy in the face of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic despite concerns the measures could isolate China.
"Only by preventing the epidemic can the economy be stabilized. If the overall account is calculated, China's epidemic prevention measures are the most economical and have the best effect," stressed China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning speaking in a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.
The announcement came after the Chinese Communist Party’s flagship newspaper People’s Daily said the policy was sustainable dousing hopes the country would relax its restrictions.
