UAE: Culture lovers rejoice as 'Expo City' officially opens in Dubai

Expo City Dubai officially opened its doors to guests on Saturday with a stunning light show on the Al-Wasl Dome.

The opening marked the anniversary of the inauguration of Expo 2020 Dubai, which received around 24 million visitors over 182 days before being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Expo City Dubai was created as a relaunch for last year's ill-fated attraction and organisers expect it to be an even greater success.

"One year ago today, Expo 2020 Dubai opened. It was the first world expo in the MEASA region and it was the first kind of mega event since the start of the pandemic,” said one of the expo's organisers.

“Six months on, which is today we are really proud to be opening Expo City. It is a city with so many things to attract people back. Familiar landmarks and wonderful attractions, but it is also a city that has sustainability, right at the heart of its message,” he added.

Expo City features a number of exhibitions, art installations and attractions spread over several pavilions. It is free to all who choose to enter.

“Anyone coming to EXPO City does not need to pay a Dirham to come in. It is a city, they can walk around. They can enjoy the Al Wasl dome behind me free of charge and the water feature is surreal,” the organiser said.
