
China: Chengdu locks down, introduces mass testing as city battles COVID outbreak
Authorities announced that the city of Chengdu, home to 21 million people, will be closed from Thursday until Sunday, following a COVID-19 outbreak.
Footage filmed on Thursday shows locals shopping for groceries before the lockdown, while some public places were already closed.
Mass testing will be carried out, with residents not allowed to leave their homes after 18:00 (10:00 GMT) local time on September 1. Visitors will not be allowed to enter the city.
