Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Hamburg on Saturday to denounce COVID restrictions and show their opposition to vaccination requirements to access leisure activities in the northern German port.

According to police, this protest is the largest COVID related demonstration in Hamburg to date with 13,700 demonstrators present.

As of Monday, restaurants, cafes and bars in Hamburg will require patrons to provide proof of vaccination or recovery along with a negative COVID test.

According to the latest figures published by the Robert Koch Institute on Friday, Hamburg has registered 8,227 infections over one week with its incidence rate laying at 444,1.
