Thousands marched through Nuremberg on Monday evening to protest against COVID-19 restrictions.

Protesters marched through the south German city carrying signs and placards bearing slogans showing opposition to measures aimed at curbing community spread of COVID-19. One banner read 'No vaccine mandate' in reference to a mooted nationwide general vaccination requirement.

Some 4,200 people took part in the march according to police who escorted the peaceful demonstration through the city.

Thousands marched in numerous locations across Germany on Monday night in a show of opposition to COVID-19 restrictions amid a surge in infections of the Omicron variant.
