Greece: Thousands of students rally in Thessaloniki against new campus security law
Around 5,000 students protested outside a courthouse in Thessaloniki on Tuesday against a new campus security law.
Footage shows demonstrators chanting slogans and singing in front of the building despite a COVID-related ban on demonstrations.
On Monday, 31 activists were arrested after violent protests.
The demonstrations were triggered by the recently approved bill which overturned a previous law banning police from operating on university grounds.
Opposition parties and student unions condemned the new law saying it goes against democratic practices in campuses.
The government argues the measure would stop criminal activity and violent protests.
