
Nepal: Kathmandu health workers get first jabs at the start of vaccination campaign
Health staff at Shukraraaj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Kathmandu received the country's first anti-COVID jabs as Nepal began its nationwide vaccination campaign on Wednesday.
The hospital's director Dr Sagar Rajbhandari was the first of the frontline workers to receive the UK-developed Oxford/AstaZeneca jab.
"I am excited and happy that I am the first person to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in Nepal. Just today, we have started a vaccine campaign, from today onwards. It will be continuing for ten days. We are going to vaccinate almost 3,500 health staff and front-liners. Today, we have planned to vaccinate 300 people," he said.
Nepal has reported at least 270,000 cases of coronavirus with over 2,000 related deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
