Netherlands: Dozens arrested as police clash with anti-lockdown protesters in Amsterdam

Dutch police arrested dozens of protesters during the unauthorised demonstration against the lockdown in Amsterdam on Sunday.

Police used force to remove protesters as they refused to disperse after multiple warnings. Many demonstrators were peacefully sitting on a field next to banners and signs against the coronavirus restrictive measures, but defying the COVID lockdown rules.

Officers used horses, dogs, water cannons and batons to break the demonstrations.

The unrest in several Dutch cities comes a night after riots took place in a fishing village of Urk, during its first night experiencing a new curfew imposed by the Dutch government to curb the spread of the coronavirus's more infectious variant.
