Hong Kong: Thousands in lockdown as police cordons off area to curb COVID outbreak
At least 10,000 residents were cordoned off in part of the Yau Tsim Mong district of Hong Kong on Saturday.
The government reportedly deployed three thousand health specialists and police officers to carry out a COVID-19 screening operation in the area.
People were seen queuing to get tested for the coronavirus.
"Of course, it is not good to lock down the district. There are only 20 cases. The government is too nervous, the other countries have more than 10,000 cases per day. We are here totally around 50," said one of residents.
The Hong Kong government said the measure was necessary to stop the outbreak of COVID-19 in the area where 162 confirmed cases were found in the last three weeks.
