Russia: Budapest becomes first EU member to sign Sputnik V supply deal with Moscow
Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto met in Moscow on Friday to close a deal for Russia to supply its Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine to the EU country.
"The first dose of the vaccine delivered in December was examined in Hungary. Therefore I would like to point out that this event opens further horizons for cooperation between Russia and Hungary," Murashko said after the meeting.
Szijjarto on his part said that Hungary was “forced to find a new source in order to get a fast delivery of a reliable vaccine” as “100-150 people die every day in Hungary due to the pandemic. The economic damage reaches ten billion forints daily due to severe restrictions. Therefore, speeding up the vaccination is a national priority and interest.”
