USA: Biden wants to bring 'truth and transparency back to govt' says new WH press sec
New White House press secretary Jen Psaki outlined her vision for the role under the presidency of Joe Biden, during a press conference in Washington DC on Wednesday.
"I work for him, so I also work for the American people, but his objective and his commitment is to bring transparency and truth back to government," she stated.
Psaki went on to announce that Biden's first phone call with a foreign leader will be with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"I don't have any plans to read out for you in terms of a call with (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin. I will note for you that I would expect his early calls will be with partners and allies," she added.
Psaki also addressed the issue of the Iran nuclear deal and the possibility of the US rejoining the agreement.
"The president has made clear that he believes that through follow-on diplomacy, the United States seek to lengthen and strengthen nuclear constraints on Iran and address other issues of concern," she said.
"Iran must resume compliance with significant nuclear constraints under the deal in order for that to proceed," she added.
