USA: Thousand of National Guard troops heighten security at US Capitol ahead of Biden inauguration

A massive US National Guard presence, as well as fences, barricades and heavy police presence was seen securing the US Capitol on Saturday ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration ceremony.

The National Guard announced that it will send over 21,000 troops from around the US in order to increase security for January 20th when the inauguration will take place.

"I think it's necessary given what's happened over the last couple of weeks and because of the threats that are supposedly out there. We have to do it and it's really sad that it has got to this point that this is what it takes to have an inauguration. This is what it takes to have a free and fair handover and transfer of power. It's a sad state but I think it's necessary," stated local resident John.

Security is on high alert nationwide after the FBI warned the country about possible planned attacks on similar buildings after the last week's shocking US Capitol storming.

"I've lived in DC now for eight years, three blocks from the Capitol. It's shocking to see this because I used to take my daily walk right in front of the Capitol steps and always felt secure. To see this is shocking, but it's totally necessary," said local resident Tom.
