Germany: Navalny 'fully free' to choose to leave country - govt spox
Germany government spokesperson Steffen Seibert said that Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny was 'fully free' to decide to leave the country, during a press conference in Berlin on Friday.
"We are happy that he had recovered that he can consider this step to go," said Seibert.
Navalny announced on Wednesday that he would return to Russia on Sunday, with Russia's federal prison service issuing a statement on Thursday announcing that he would be arrested upon his return for violating the terms of a previous suspended sentence.
Seibert also called on companies in the country to allow more workers work from home amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"We have experienced in the beginning of the year that amount of people who were working from home was higher than now, thus it is possible', he said, echoing President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who gave a speech earlier in the day appealing for employers to increase home working in order to help curb the spread of the virus.
