A baby zebra born in the middle of Storm Filomena has been named after the snowstorm after becoming the first birth of 2021 at the Bioparc Valencia.
She could be seen taking her first steps on Thursday morning at the zoo in Valencia.
She received the name Filomena after the historic snowstorm that hit Spain in recent days. Filomena, the storm, brought the heaviest snowfall seen in Madrid since 1971.
The little zebra was born in the middle of the storm in the early morning of Monday, January 11th. Due to the low temperatures, the park caretakers decided to keep her and her mother in a shelter until they were sure that both were healthy enough. Yesterday morning she was able to take her first walk under the sun.
Filomena currently lives in the zoo along with her mother, a German zebra called 'Nina' and her father, a French zebra called 'Zande.'
