Italy: Council of Ministers holds meeting on recovery plan as political crisis looms
The Italian Council of Ministers convened at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome on Tuesday evening, to hold a meeting on the country's economic recovery plan amid reports of a looming political crisis.
Italy's Minister of Sports Vincenzo Spadafora told journalists "I think that everyone can still make a gesture of responsibility. There are conditions to do so," as he was seen arriving on the premises.
A new draft detailing Italy's spending of €209 billion ($255 billion) of EU grants and low-interest loans that the country would get amid the bloc's COVID-19 recovery efforts was reportedly circulated ahead of the cabinet meeting.
It is not known yet whether the governing parties will sign off on the plan at the meeting, with reports of a possible split in the ruling coalition which could signal the end of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte's government.
