Watch your head, food's coming! Robots serve Shenzhen restaurant visitors from ceiling
A robot-powered restaurant has opened in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, with visitors seen enjoying their meal on Friday.
A conveyor belt system runs on the ceiling of the restaurant where pink boxes move back and forth carrying food from the kitchen above the diners' heads and delivering it to the tables. Robot waiters were also spotted rolling between the tables, getting orders.
"We hope to optimise the labour cost structure of this traditional industry by using self-developed catering robots, and provide faster and safer delicacy with a futuristic dining experience," said Song Fang, the brand director of Qianxi Robotics Group which opened the restaurant.
Robot-equipped restaurants have also become popular due to the possibility to reduce human-to-human contact amid the COVID pandemic.
