State of Palestine: Israeli forces fire tear gas to disperse anti-annexation protest
Israeli forces used tear gas to disperse dozens of Palestinians marching against the annexation of private Palestinian lands near Salfit city, in the West Bank, on Thursday.
Some 30 protesters and journalists were injured, according to local reports. An ambulance could be seen next to the rally.
"Our message here is that we are facing the settler-colonial project that wants to divide the West Bank into parts," said Walid Assaf, head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission. "We have property papers, and the owners of the lands presented them to us. We will defend these lands with law and popular resistance," Assaf added.
The march was triggered by recent Israeli settlement activities in the west of Salfit, which led locals to believe a new settlement was being built in the region.
