
Germany: Trier church bells ring in tribute to victims of car-ramming incident
Church bells of Trier's old town rung on Thursday at 13:46 (12:46 GMT), to mark the time a car drove into a pedestrian zone, killing five, on Tuesday.
A crowd of locals, some visibly emotional, gathered in the main square to mourn and pay tribute to the victims. Candles, toys and flowers were laid out at a makeshift memorial.
Five people were killed and at least 23 injured after a car drove into a pedestrian zone on Tuesday. The suspect Bernd W. is believed to be German and native of Trier. The public prosecutor's office has reported there are indications that the suspect suffers from a possible mental illness and will have to be cleared after a psychiatric assessment. The investigation is ongoing.
