Belarus: Lukashenko visits COVID-19 red zone in Minsk hospital
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited COVID-19 red zone of the Minsk City Clinical Hospital No. 6 on Friday.
During the visit, Lukashenko was seen talking to patients while sitting on their beds. He was wearing a protective mask, though he had no gloves on.
Lukashenko has said he was infected with coronavirus in July but did not show symptoms.
According to the local media, the chief medical officer of the facility told Lukashenko more than 5,000 patients have been provided with medical treatment since the beginning of the pandemic with more than 1,000 doctors caring for them.
The Russian coronavirus vaccine 'Sputnik-V' was clinically tested in Belarus, and is currently going through the registration process. The first batch will reportedly be produced in Belarus before the end of the year. Full-scale production is planned for 2021.
Belarus has reported over 130,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 1,336 people have died with the disease according to Johns Hopkins University.
