Argentina: Pain and disbelief as La Boca neighbourhood mourns death of Maradona

Residents of the La Boca neighbourhood in Buenos Aires reacted in shock after the confirmation of the death of world football legend Diego Armando Maradona this Wednesday in Tigre.

"I never thought this day would come. My first idol is gone, my only idol. The greatest of all, the owner of football who gave us everything, there is no explanation," said Jose Luis Carpio.

Victor Goitea, another resident of La Boca, stated that "Diego Armando Maradona means everything, the whole world has to be with Maradona today, today the whole world cries for Diego Armando Maradona, nothing else."

"My heart went totally black, I don't know how to explain it, but Diego was everything for us," added Patricia Sanchez.

Diego Armando Maradona died this Wednesday at 16:02 GMT (13:02 local time) due to cardiac arrest. The world football icon was in a delicate state of health and had undergone surgery a few weeks ago.

The Argentinian government decreed three days of official mourning. Details on the soccer legend's funeral have yet to be released.
