France: Nice mayor vows to 'definitively destroy Islamofascism' following attack
Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, told the press that "France is today paying a much heavier tribute, being once again the victim of 'Islamofascism,'" in Nice on Thursday.
"There is no doubt that author of this action, who would not stop repeating endlessly in front of us 'Allahu Akbar,'" he added, before encouraging France to "destroy" extreme Islamism.
"The attacker himself was evacuated after being beaten down by municipal police, [he is] still alive at the moment I am speaking to you, and carried to the hospital. Now the investigators begin their work but I am saying it now, too much is too much," Estorsi added.
The French police have released a statement confirming the death of three people in the attack in a church in Nice. One woman was reportedly decapitated, and several more injured.
Tensions have been escalating in France following the beheading of a school teacher in Paris on October 16, after he showed cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad to his students during a discussion on freedom of speech.
