France: Parisians content with Charlie Hebdo cartoon mocking Erdogan

Paris residents shared their reactions after the French satirical journal Charlie Hebdo mocked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on its cover on Wednesday.

Many Parisians showed a positive response as they went to newsstands to buy the journal.

According to Remy, a Parisian resident, the cover represented and reaffirmed the values on which France is firmly established.

"It represents the fact that despite everything, humour is the most important thing," Julien, another Parisian resident said, adding, "it is a nice lesson from Charlie Hebdo to say, "We do what we want at home!"

Religious tensions in France have grown after French teacher Samuel Paty was killed on October 16, after he showed Prophet Muhammad caricatures to his students.

Erdogan has called for a boycott of French goods after French President Emmanuel Macron addressed Paty's murder during a national tribute, announcing he would continue supporting the right to blaspheme and freedom of expression.

While many leaders have criticised Macron's approach to Islam, others have supported his statements.
