USA: Trump announces Sudan-Israel deal, hopes Iran joins
US President Donald Trump announced that Sudan and Israel had agreed to normalise relations, speaking in the White House in Washington DC, on Friday. The agreement was sealed via a phone call he had with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and Transitional Council Head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
He added, "I think ultimately Iran maybe will become a member of this whole thing, if you want to really know the truth," meaning that Iran could join several Arab countries that recently agreed to formalise relations with Israel.
"I'd love to help Iran," assured Trump, adding, "they just can't have nuclear weapons."
Sudan becomes the third Arab country after the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain that agreed to normalise ties with Israel.
