Nagorno-Karabakh: Three injured in night shelling of Stepanakert - NKR ombudsman

Disputed Territory, Stepanakert

Stores and residential houses were shelled in Stepanakert, the capital of the unrecognised Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Three civilians were wounded in the attack as NKR human rights ombudsman Artak Beglaryan reported.

Resident of the house next to the one that was shelled, Svetlana Ishkhanyan, said that her friend Rosa had been injured in the attack.

"I heard everything that happened. And suddenly Rosa [shouted]: 'Oh, mama, oh, mama'. There were all the men and boys who were here and all of them helped, [called] an ambulance and a hospital," Ishkhanyan said.

Partly-destroyed buildings could be seen in footage, with windows broken and holes from shells left in walls.

"Over the night, once again violating the humanitarian ceasefire, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces struck with missiles the civilian settlement of Artsakh, including the capital Stepanakert," Armenian Defence Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan wrote on her Twitter page.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan was earlier quoted in media as saying that at least 52 people had been injured and 13 killed as a result of shelling of Azerbaijan's second-largest city of Ganja.

The Saturday shelling, which hit Ganja and reached the nearby strategic city of Mingechevir, happened several hours after Azerbaijani Forces shelled the NKR capital Stepanakert.

Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh broke out on September 27.

Yerevan and Baku agreed to a ceasefire on October 10, but both sides have since accused each other of continuing attacks.
