
Australia: Rescue effort underway for hundreds of whales stranded off Tasmania
Rescue effort was underway for some 270 whales that are stranded in a bay off the Australian island of Tasmania, on Tuesday.
Along the western coast of Tasmania, marine conservationists gathered in an attempt to save the pilot whales stranded on sandbars. A police boat was seen circling the area.
The rescue operation is expected to take several days. According to reports, a mass stranding of this size had not been seen in some 10 years in Tasmania.
