China: International flights resume landing at Wuhan airport after 7-month COVID break

International flights began serving Wuhan Tianhe International Airport following a seven-month closure due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A cargo plane connecting Wuhan with Amsterdam and London and a passenger plane that delivered travellers from Seoul could be seen in Wuhan on Wednesday.

Chinese authorities have implemented a series of prevention measures to prevent a resurgence of the COVID-19 epidemic in Wuhan.

"To comply with national policy, all incoming passengers must provide a negative nucleic acid [antibody] test certificate, issued by a medical institution vetted by Chinese embassies abroad. The test must be taken 72 hours before entering the country," explained Li Yizhuo, spokesperson of Wuhan Civil Aviation Office.

Spokesperson of T'way Airlines China Office, Lee Tae Kwan, told reporters that the airline will apply to increase the number of flights between Wuhan and Seoul "If we don't have any positive case passengers in three weeks."

Domestic flights resumed in April and reportedly reached pre-pandemic levels last week.

Wuhan was the epicentre of coronavirus in China, with the first confirmed case registering there. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the city recorded more than 50,000 coronavirus cases and count nearly 4,600 linked deaths.
