UK: 'They're trying to undermine the witnesses' - WikiLeaks editor-in-chief on latest Assange hearing

United Kingdom, London
September 15, 2020 at 23:30 GMT -00:00 · Published

Julian Assange's father John Shipton and WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Kristinn Hrafnsson spoke to the press following the latest hearing on Assange's extradition in London on Tuesday.

Hrafnsson commented on the cross-examination tactics of the Prosecutors: "They're trying to undermine the witnesses, trying to discredit them in every fashion," he said.

John Shipton, Assange's father, said, "The Obama Administration decided not to prosecute Julian, and let the case fall. Upon the Trump administration coming in 2016 and 2017 in April, Mike Pompeo resurrected it while he was head of the CIA."

The Wikileaks founder is fighting extradition to the United States where he faces 18 charges related to the publication of material from Chelsea Manning. He has been behind bars in Belmarsh Prison since he was dragged out of the Ecuadorian Embassy in April 2019. He faces multiple charges in the US related to espionage.
