Germany: Thousands attend Leipzig concert as part of COVID-19 study
Thousands of participants attended a test entitled RESTART-19 to evaluate the risk of COVID-19 transmission in a major event in a closed hall, in Leipzig on Saturday.
The study also aimed to investigate the conditions in which large events can be held under the current circumstances without risking the health of the general population.
Thousands attended the event, which was free. The event included three concerts by German singer Tim Bendzko to attract people to participate.
The concerts were held with different variables: without social distancing and using only two entrance doors, using eight doors with one empty seat between audience members for the second and the third which included only 2,000 people sitting one and a half meters apart.
The study involved people between the ages of 18 and 50 years of age, in good health, who had tested negative in the past two days. Their temperature was also checked on site.
The study is being carried out by University Medical Center of Halle.
