Lebanon: Israel-UAE agreement 'primarily American need' - Nasrallah
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hasan Nasrallah condemned the Israel-UAE peace agreement and considered it to be an act of “betrayal” and “primarily an American need." Nasrallah made his comments during his speech on the occasion of the 2006 war on Lebanon on Friday.
The treaty, announced on Thursday, establishes diplomatic ties between UAE and Israel, sparking criticism in parts of the Arab world. Israel is expected to halt its plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
"This is a condemned and rejected act, this is a betrayal of Islam, Arabism and the nation, and a betrayal of Jerusalem, the Palestinian people and the sanctities,” added Nasrallah.
The Secretary-General said he expected a number of Arab regimes, “which are standing already in turn awaiting the order,” will sign peace agreements with the US before the American elections, which are due to be held on November 3. Nasrallah suggested that the treaties would be brokered by White House Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, as opposed to Trump. Kushner is Jewish.
Nasrallah described both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be “weak,” as public opinion of the two has reportedly decreased in their own countries in recent months.
Regarding Beirut’s port blasts, Nasrallah questioned the credibility of the potential FBI and international investigation in the explosions incident, and considered that Israel will be “saved from its responsibility” for the explosion, “in case it was involved.”
Germany is among several countries who have welcomed the "historic" peace deal.
