CAT-chy or KIT-schy: Mexican artist creates COVID face shields for felines
Artist Nestor Ortega has been creating face shields for cats seemingly to prevent them from catching COVID-19 as seen on Wednesday in the city of Xalapa.
The idea came from the artist's sister-in-law who asked him to design a pair of masks for her kitten as an accessory. After the designs were posted on social media, they soon became popular.
"We have Darth Vader, Felix the Cat, Star Wars, Hello Kitty and various other designs," said Ortega while showing off the designs.
Although there is a lower risk of contagion in animals, the face masks not only protect the little felines but also contribute to the culture of awareness and the importance of using a mask.
"We are trying to protect ourselves and the animals, it is an accessory, to remember that we need to protect ourselves," added Ortega.
