UK: 'Barca supporter' Guardiola focused to beat Real Madrid ahead of Champions League clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told journalists that he was focused on triumphing against Real Madrid in the return leg of the Champions League Round of 16, speaking via a video conference call from Manchester on Thursday.

Guardiola also used the chance to reiterate his love for his hometown club, FC Barcelona, which are arch rivals of Real Madrid. However, he said that this will not be any additional motivation for Friday's match.

"I will always be a Barcelona supporter. It is the club where I grew up and that gave me part of who I am, but when I was with Bayern Munich and played against Real Madrid or Barcelona I wanted to beat them. I played against Barcelona I wanted to beat them and didn't do it. Nothing special, honestly," he said.

"I just want for our players, for our club, to go to the next step, that is what I want. I don't lose concentration or focus in these kind of things. I am focused on what we have to do as a team to beat Real Madrid," he added.

Guardiola also said that his team was feeling ready, and stated that he believes in their ability to win the competition.

"We want to win this competition for sure. To win this competition we have to beat [Real] Madrid and teams like [Real] Madrid. So you cannot expect another issue. If we want to win this competition, and we want to, we have to beat them tomorrow and then the next rounds," he added.

Manchester City is set to host Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, on Friday, in the return leg of the Champions League Round of 16. The Blues will attempt to defend a one-goal advantage from the first leg in Madrid, which ended 2:1 for City.
