Iran sent food and medical supplies to Lebanon on Wednesday, from Tehran, after the deadly blasts on Tuesday killed at least a hundred and injures thousands in Beirut on Tuesday.

"Considering the special situation that happened in Beirut and the huge explosion that happened, since this morning it was decided a pharmaceutical cargo with food and medical items as well as a medical team to be deployed to Lebanon," explained the Head of Iranian Red Cross Society Karim Hemmati at Mehrabad airport in Tehran, where a reported 15 tons of medical equipment and another 15 tons of food supplies were being loaded in a plane bound to Beirut.

Hemmati also said they were also sending a full 30-person medical team with a fully equipped mobile hospital.

A two-week state of emergency has been enacted by the Lebanese government while the country's health minister has reportedly said that over 135 people have been killed, with around 5,000 injured. Both figures are set to rise as the search for survivors continues amid the rubble. Results of an investigation into the causes of the explosions are expected to be released in the next five days.
