Pakistan: Protesters rally in Muzaffarabad on anniv. of India's Kashmir autonomy move

Hundreds of protesters rallied on the streets of Muzaffarabad, Wednesday, to denounce New Delhi's revocation of Indian-administered Kashmir's semi-autonomous status one year after the move was made.

Protesters were seen fastened in chains on the streets of the capital of Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu while chanting "we want freedom, it is our right" and "go India, go back.' Other demonstrators held banners rejecting India's decision concerning Kashmir's autonomy.

"This [Kashmir] issue is now beyond political, moral and diplomatic support. After [last] August 5, the government of Pakistan must adopt an aggressive policy to tell the world that by putting its head in the sand they have actually given a free hand to India and the peace of 150 million Kashmiris is now in serious danger," said Farooq Haider, prime minister of Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Semi-autonomy, now stripped, gave the Muslim-majority territory of Jammu and Kashmir special privileges under Article 370. India says curfews and communication limits, imposed in the region in the wake of the article's revocation, are required to maintain security.
