Russia: Lavrov and Zarif hold talks on conflict settlement in Middle East

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif held a joint press conference after a bilateral meeting in Moscow, on Tuesday.

Lavrov commented on the principle of non-interference and said that "the attempts to destroy the relations between the corresponding countries, to incite hatred in order to gain one-sided geopolitical advantages should be avoided.”

“We see such attempt, and, unfortunately, such an approach of some of our Western colleagues spread in Muslim countries, when one tries to introduce differences of artificial and useless counterproductive character in the Islamic world," he added.

He also noted that in order to find a solution to the Middle Eastern conflict cooperation among all interested parties is needed.

"Such an union of efforts of all Muslims and interested foreign parties is needed not only in the case of the Syrian conflict, but in Yemen, Iraq, Libya, and, of course, in order to get out of the deadlock in the Middle East conflict settlement, Palestine – Israeli conflict," said Lavrov.

Iranian Foreign Minister, in turn, said during the press conference that cooperation between Russia, Iran and Syria plays an important role in the fight against terrorism.

Speaking about former US National Security Adviser John Bolton, Zarif highlighted that if Bolton had the opportunity, "he would already start a Third World War."
