USA: Protesters stage 'Strike for Black Lives' demo in New York City

United States, New York City
July 20, 2020 at 19:31 GMT -00:00 · Published

Dozens of union workers gathered around the Trump International Hotel in New York City on Monday, to protest against economic inequality and racism as part of a “Strike for Black Lives” demo, as well as demanding President Trump to pass the HEROES Act.

Protesters were seen carrying signs reading “Black Lives Matter” and giving speeches, minutes before being joined by Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer.

"More people are out of work than any time since the Great Depression. Another 1.3 million applied for unemployment in the past month alone. Aid is running out. Every day millions of people are closer to losing their homes, while a month after the house passed the Heroes Act, Senate Republicans say everything is fine and refuse to bring up the Heroes Act for a vote," stated protester Kyle.

“We are out here saying during this time it is one thing to say you support us verbally, but now is time to show us support in a real way by giving the economic stimulus to the everyday employees in this city," added demonstrator Erik, before listing essential workers such as nurses, doormen and cleaners, as the ones responsible to keep the city running whilst under lockdown.

According to reports, a wide range of actions are expected to take place across the country today, in a bid to have thousands of workers walking off their jobs, calling corporations and politicians to take actions towards allowing all races to succeed.
