Belgium: Merkel and Macron leave without agreement after third day of EU summit
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were seen leaving the EU in-person summit in Brussels after third and last day of the meeting, Monday, as the summit was extended in hopes of finding an agreement.
Earlier Merkel said that the summit could end with no results, "There is a lot of goodwill but there are many positions and so I will work for it, but it may also be that there are no results today."
The special gathering of the European Council on July 17-19 marked the first face to face meeting among the EU leaders, where talks to agree on a recovery plan due to the coronavirus were expected, after failing to reach an agreement on the EU budget for the next seven years in February.
