Netherlands: Kosovo Pres. Thaci arrives at Hague to be interviewed on war crime charges
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci arrived at The Hague on Monday, to be interviewed by a special international prosecutor on war crimes charges.
Thaci was seen arriving, as dozens of his supporters had gathered outside the court.
Addressing the press, he said that he is here “to respect what I dreamed and fought for. A free, independent Kosovo, based on equal rights, a free society, and rule of law.”
“I'm ready to face a new challenge and succeed, for my son, my family, my people, and my country. Nobody can rewrite history, this is the price for freedom. I believe in peace, truth, reconsideration, and justice,” he added.
Thaci also called Kosovo a “success story.”
The Kosovo president, together with Democratic Party leader Kadri Veseli and other former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, were charged by the Specialist Prosecutor's Office in the Hague for wartime and post-war crimes.
The charges include nearly 100 murders, as well as torture and persecution. Thaci is denying all accusations.
