02:00Iraq: Fortifications set up along Turkey border after airstrikes on alleged Kurdish targets
A newly established Iraqi army fortification on top of a mountain, on the border with Turkey, near Batifa, northern Iraq, was filmed on Sunday.
It is one of many new border fortifications set up by the Iraqi army, in the aftermath of the Turkish airstrikes on suspected Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) hotspots in the region, which killed one and injured as many as six people on Thursday.
Botan Muhsin Saleh, senior administrator of the nearby town of Zakho, said that these new fortifications were to reassure people in villages close to the border, so that they can go back to their homes.
The airstrike came as Ankara has launched Operation Claw-Tiger targeting Kurdish militants as part of a joint air and land offensive against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in response to attacks on Turkish military bases.
