Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia won't be opening its borders anytime soon due to the amount of recorded COVID-19 cases, speaking to RT in Moscow in an exclusive interview which aired on Monday.

"For example, Europe is starting to open its borders, but, given the number of detected cases, Russia, as well as the United States and Brazil, is considered at this point as a country that is unlikely to open," the minister said.

He added that the Russian Foreign Ministry is to hold discussions in the near future on how to proceed with air, rail and car travel to other countries.

Discussing how the COVID-19 pandemic had affected his work, Lavrov said that online and remote working would continue also after the pandemic, but noted that some important meetings and discussions still needed to be conducted face to face.

"There are things that are difficult to entrust even to the most secure video conference systems. It has to be understood," stated the diplomat.
