China: Hong Kong Chief executive accuses foreign govts of using 'blatant double standard'

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam accused foreign countries, critical of her government's handling of protests, of using 'blatant double standard.' Lam spoke in Beijing on Wednesday where she met with officials from the central government of China to discuss the National Security Law.

"It is within the legitimate jurisdiction of any country to enact law to protect its national interests. USA is no exception, UK is no exception. So why should they object, resist or even condemn and take sanctions against Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China for seeking similar action?" said Lam.

The chief executive also said that possible sanctions would not affect the city as in many aspects the US benefited more from its economic activity there.

China announced earlier this month that it will enact a national security law for Hong Kong which would in effect cost the city its high level of autonomy outside.
