Germany: Berlin lifts travel warnings for EU, UK and associated countries starting June 15

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas announced that travel warnings for the EU member states, the UK as well as the Schengen associated countries will be lifted starting June 15, while speaking outside the Foreign Ministry in Berlin on Wednesday.

"The cabinet has decided today to lift travel warnings for the EU members states, Schengen associated countries and the UK starting from June 15 and to turn them into individual travel guidelines," he explained.

The eased travel restrictions will apply to those countries where there are no active lockdowns or travel bans as there are in Norway and Spain.

Maas continued: "These requirements are for all countries except for Norway where the lockdown has been in place for a bit longer and Spain where the parliament will discuss today the extension of the travel ban till June 21."

Travellers are also urged not to travel to the UK when not essential as long as a 14-day quarantine in place.

Maas stressed that even though the cabinet's decision creates hope and expectations among tourists, "travel warnings are not travel bans and travel guidelines are not travel invitations."

He added, "We don't want to give a false sense of security, the pandemic is not over. And together we have to prevent the situation when tourism brings the second wave in Germany and elsewhere."

Germany maintains its travel warnings for non-European countries.
