Switzerland: Dozens protest Erdogan's participation in UN refugee forum
Dozens gathered outside the Palace of Nations in Geneva on Tuesday to protest against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's participation in the UN Global Refugee Forum.
"We call on the European people to take to the streets to protest and resist this bloody dictator and to defend democracy in order to protest against the Kurdish genocide that has been committed before the eyes of the whole world." one of the protesters said addressing the crowd.
Protesters were seen burning pictures of the Turkish president and chanting slogans like "Terrorist Erdogan" and "Erdogan is a killer" while waving with Kurdish flags.
The protest was reportedly organised by the Swiss Kurdish organisation and was also joined by a group that stood in solidarity with the Turkish women who were arrested after protesting against gender-based violence in Istanbul
"In Istanbul on December 8, women took to the streets and were violently repressed. Six of them were imprisoned and are awaiting sentence. They can be sentenced to two years in prison for this performance [The rapist is you performance] that we have just made in front of the palace of the United Nations" protester Noemi Blazques protester said.
The UN Global Refugee Forum kicked off on December 16 at United Nations headquarters in Geneva with the stated objective of translating the principle of international responsibility-sharing into concrete action.
