Russia: Berlin-Moscow tensions should be handled 'through official channels' - Zakharova

Russian Federation, Moscow
December 12, 2019 at 13:53 GMT -00:00 · Published

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on the recent row between Russia and Germany over the murder of a Georgian citizen in Berlin during her weekly briefing in Moscow on Thursday.

Zakharova said that the mean was "sought after" by Russian authorities, but said the issue should be dealt with "through official channels."

"What we see now is this is a public issue mostly and this is not constructive as I see it," she added.

She accused also British officials of breaking "all the laws and rights and norms that regulate and guarantee freedom of media and security of journalists" by holding Assange in such bad conditions. "The question here is how far the British and their partners can go on their desire not just to get revenge on the journalist, but to deal with him," the official spokesperson concluded.

The spokesperson also said NATO is an organization which "as some of its members admit, lives with no brain," appearing to refer earlier remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron about the organisation.
