Spain: Chemical emergency declared after fire at recycling plant in Barcelona
A fire that occurred on Wednesday morning at an industrial waste recycling plant located in the Montornes del Valles region of Barcelona has forced the authorities to declare a chemical emergency, according to the Catalan Interior Ministry's Civil Protection division.
The flames caused a dense column of thick and black smoke to billow forth from the factory that could be seen from different locations in the surroundings.
Authorities have evacuated factories around the fire and have asked local residents not to leave their homes, while firefighters deployed at the scene try to quell the flames and gain control of the fire.
At this moment it is unknown if the incident has caused injuries or fatalities, although there have been some delays in commuter train services.
