Russia: “Then they will shoot and smash the shops” – Putin on ‘Moscow case’

Russian Federation, Moscow
December 10, 2019 at 18:56 GMT -00:00 · Published

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that everyone has the right to express their opinion, but within the limits of the law, while speaking at a meeting of the Human Rights Council on Tuesday.

“He threw a plastic cup at a government official. He threw it. Nothing. Then he threw a plastic bottle. Nothing again. Then he will throw a glass bottle, and then a stone, and then they will shoot and smash the shops. We should not let this happen,” he said, in reference to the so-called ’Moscow case’.

Commenting on the recent Normandy format meeting, Putin said that Donbass might see the fate of the Srebrenica [massacre] if Kiev gains control over the border there without providing guarantees of protection to its residents.

In addition, he said that the law on amnesty of people from LPR (Luhansk People’s Republic) and DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic) has not been adopted yet, as well as criminal cases against persons who found themselves on the exchange in Russia have not been closed. Putin expressed doubt over the likelihood of Ukraine handing over these cases to Russia, and does not know that "they will ask in return," but the Russian leader assured that "negotiations on this matter are possible”.

The Human Rights Council meets annually on International Human Rights Day. International Human Rights Day was established in 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly, two years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
