France: He was behind Moscow Metro explosions - Putin on Georgian citizen killed in Germany

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Georgian man killed in August in the German capital was a killer who had a hand in the Moscow metro explosions, speaking at a press conference after the 'Normandy Four' talks in Paris on Monday.

Being asked about this case by the journalist and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Putin described the man as a “tough and blood-thirsty” person, who was actually not a Georgian national. The Russian President emphasised that the man was “a killer” who had murdered at least 98 people and took part in various military operations across south Russia’s Caucasus on the side of separatists. “He was one of the organisers of explosions in the Moscow metro,” Putin added.

Speaking on the killing in the German capital, the Russian leader said, “I don’t know what happened to him. It’s a criminal environment, where anything can happen.”

As in December two Russian diplomats were expelled over the killing in Berlin, Putin was asked about the possible response. “There is an unwritten rule, an unwritten law to apply in such cases. You expelled our diplomats, we expel yours,” he said.

The Russian President told the journalists that Russia had asked Germany “a number of times to extradite this gunman,” but it led to nothing.

An alleged Georgian national was killed in the streets of Berlin. Germany’s federal prosecutor’s office has accused Russia of murdering the man on its soil. Russia denies the allegations.
