Italy: Qatar foreign minister confirms Saudi talks
Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani confirmed his country has been in talks with Saudi Arabia during the Mediterranean Dialogue Forum in Rome on Friday, more than two years after Riyadh initiated a blockade against Doha and cut off diplomatic ties with it.
"We have moved from a stalemate to some progress where there are some talks took place between us and specifically Saudi," al-Thani said.
Al-Thani said the meetings took place in "different countries" and thanked Kuwait's Emir, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, for his part in mediating between the two countries.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates initiated a boycott against Qatar in June 2017, and started a land, air and sea blockade. The countries accused Doha of supporting terrorism and meddling in their internal affairs - charges denied by Qatar.
