UK: Brian Eno joins 'Don't extradite Assange' protest near London's Home Office

December 2, 2019 at 23:18 GMT -00:00 · Published

Well-renowned musician Brian Eno and former US diplomat Ann Wright joined the 'Don't extradite Assange' protest outside London's Home Office on Monday.

The campaign has organised thousands of printed and pre-addressed Christmas cards to be posted to the Home Secretary, Priti Patel in support of having Assange released from London high security prison, Belmash, which is where the UK imprisons the "most dangerous terrorists."

Brian Eno highlighted the severe consequences for journalism, arguing that, "there aren't many journalists left now. They are an endangered species because newspapers don't need them anymore. They've found that you can generate content just by trawling the internet, shuffling the words around. And that doesn't seem to matter very much. Julian Assange is someone who revealed the truth, which is what journalism is supposed to be about, and it's become an increasingly dangerous job, as his case can show."

Former US diplomat and US Army colonel Ann Wright emphasised the importance of WikiLeaks and their work in revealing why the war in Iraq started and "how the United States and other nations got involved."
